Design and product development at Atus Design, LLC.

Another shot at writing instruments. These are two concepts of inexpensive, but unusual in shape ballpoint pens with retracting lead. Both concepts showing over-molding, but this is just beautification and could be skipped if lower manufacturing cost is more important than market value.

This will be an addition to previous post. Some sketches of pen ideas, made by hand with markers.

Day-10; Wednesday-June-24-2015; Back to designing writing instruments

I missed two days, leaving them without any new posts - Monday and Tuesday, June 22 and June 23, respectively. I will skip the explanations and reasons, why this happened. It just did. Now I am back on track and back to designing writing instruments. This time I will post marker sketches of some of my "crazy" ideas on "flashy" pens, which, frankly I am not sure I would want myself. But something tells me that thewse designed, if manufactured, may be popular among school and college students.

Day-7; Friday-June-19-2015; Wooden bent plywood stools

I turn to bent plywood again and again. I love this material and this technology! Here I present design concepts of three-legged and four-legged stools. Some have separate top seating platform, but all of them can be used without it, just forming sitting surface by assembly of identical modules.

Day-6; Thursday-June-18-2015; Wood and lighting design concepts

I think, almost every product designer at some point in his or her career was attracted to the idea of creating new and good looking lighting products. At least, every single designer I have ever known went through such phase. Some even "got stuck" there and made designing lighting equipment their full-time job.
I have been fascinated by light too and I keeep coming back to this field every now and then. This time I tried to create few quick concepts with wood and/or bent plywood as major materials for lighting objects.

Day-5; Wednesday-June-17-2015; Pet food and water bowls

This time I decided to turn my attention to family pets, cats and dogs, and their needs. I designed a set of pet bowls, where wooden frame is used to hold stainless steel bowl. There is a small catch - same wooden frame can be used with smaller and larger steel bowls. Just flip frame over and use a steel bowl that fits frame's opening.

Day-4; Tuesday-June-16-2015; Wooden rocking horses

Here are couple of concepts of rocking horse for kids, made out of bent plywood. When I designed toys in the past, I often was coming across parent's comments that they would love to have certain toys for their kids, but they have two kids of same or close age and would prefer if that toy could be used by two siblings at the same time to avoid fights and scandals. So, I designed rocking horse which one child can ride or two can share a ride at the same time.

Day-3; Monday-June-15-2015; Wine rack design concept

Here is a quick set of design concepts of hanging and free-standing wine racks for holding wine bottles and wine glasses. Elements would be executed in bent veneer. Simple, practical and possibly attractive in some specific interior environments.
